Book four of the Song of the Lioness Quartet, Lioness Rampant

Lioness Rampant, is the closing of the circle that is the Song of the lioness quartet, and possibly the absolute worst cover I own of the series... why does Alanna have monkey features and Brooke Shields overgrown eyebrows??

The story arc covers a huge adventure, Jonathan's coronation as King and the beginnings of the adult transformations of all her characters, from Alanna straight through to Raoul and Geoffrey of Meron. Although many of her characters pop up in the other Tortall books, Tamora Pierce has taken great care to place each of them in a place and condition which indicates the end of this particular series. And you know what? I like almost every choice she's made, which can be rare.

OK, so she kills a few I'd rather she didn't, and the end makes me cry EVERY time I read it (which is super embarrassing if i finish the book in public) , but in the end, I'm happy.

I think Jonathan's line sums the story up nicely, "You turned into a hero when I wasn't watching", except, of course, she was my hero all along.

Meanwhile, my simple re-reading of the Song of the Lioness Quartet has launched me on a full blown Alanna craze, and I've moved on to the next series The Immortals, without delay.
