Book Blogger Hop- sharing networking advice! (p to the s- feline fridays coming later today!)

Book Blogger Hop

So this weeks question is a great one for the new newbies in the book blogging world-
How do you spread the word about your blog??

Wellllllll, that was a really hard one for me to figure out.  I did all the obvious things at first, joined up every referring site and directory that I could find on ANYBODIES blog anywhere, network blogs on facebook, fan page on facebook, inviting everyone and their dog/cat/hamster, commented and started religiously following everyone I could find that was appealing (honestly I can't follow a blog that bores me or reviews appalling books), joining goodreads, librarything and book blog ning (and then maintaining them! gack so much work!). Linking to other peoples reviews, diligently going through all the blogs i follow and commenting on their reviews of the same book. Spending hours and hours and hours on the networking.
It seems crazy at first, I spent so much time networking I wasn't sure how I was ever going to have time to read!
But eventually it starts to pan out, and you can ease up a bit.

The second prong to this, I found, was developing my blog to be as appealing and note worthy as possible. So I tried to create a good by-line, a brand image (banner), bookmarks to give away, and to make my site as easy to load and use as possible (i hate a blog that I can't navigate and takes 15 minutes to load).

I hope there was some good tips in there for someone, something you didn't know about maybe.

Finally, come on by all month and help me celebrate all things scary, pick up a button for my Giving me the Creeps October, and drop off your links to scary reviews, interviews or giveaways.  Later this afternoon I'll have my first ever Scarrrrry Feline Friday and tomorrow my review for the Forest of Hands and Teeth!
Trick or Treat!!

  1. Hi there!

I'm hopping by from the Blog Hop!

    I'm a new follower!

Happy Reading and welcome to the blogging world!

I like your response to the question! :)

    Good luck with your blog!

  2. Just popping in via the hop to say hi! I'm a huge fan of YA as well so I'm glad to have found your blog. I pretty much did all the things you did in the beginning with commenting on other blogs and joining book blog directory sites, it was definitely overwhelming at first, but much more manageable and more fun now! I'm a new follower and I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. Hey there, stopping by from the hop! I LOVE your blog so far! That header is amazing! There are so many adventures to explore through books. I'm a new follower!
I would really appreciate it if you stopped by my blog(:

  4. Just hopping by to say hello! I am following and can’t wait to read more from your blog. Here is my blog

  5. Hopping through. New follower. I think the Hops are the best publicity.
You have a fabulous header. I haven't bothered much with the format of my blog, but having a header as terrific as yours definitely attracts attention.

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm a new follower :)

  7. Hi Rhiannon,
Thanks for stopping by on the Hop! Your blog looks amazing. I need to come back in a day or two when I have more time.

Yes, Twitter does seem like a huge commitment. I am amazed at how people utilize it all day! I've got tons of Horror recommendations, some are on Goodreads too. But I'll shoot you an e-mail soon.

  8. I love YA and I never thought about reviewing historical biographies! I have read several, all from my ancestors, and I feel very fortunate that someone took the time to compile their life stories because they are amazing. I also enjoy reading biographies of people who interest me in general occasionally. Your blog looks very nice too. I enjoy doing these memes to get to meet new people, though I do use twitter and facebook occasionally with it too. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! I'm a new follower.

  9. Hi there. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm now following you, too. OMG, I love your cat sweaters! How cute is that?

  10. I agree, usability and readability are very high on the "Am I going to follow this?" list. There are a few that I can't believe the people who made them can't recognize that their blogs aren't readable.

You're right though, you could spend hours and hours just networking, and then who would read?
One thing I have learned through this hop, I don't think I post enough. I was always afraid that I would post too much and annoy folks, but I've found the more the merrier concerning reviews!!

  11. Ladies! my banner is the beautiful creation of the artisticaly inclined hubby. So thank you from me, but even more from him!

Angela- I agree, how cute is that??! come on back every friday I promise to cute it up all of october on Feline Fridays.

Midnyte Reader- Can't wait for your suggestions, make sure to link up your reviews too! I love spreading the word about good blogs

Heather- More then once a day always seems super excessive to me so I try to keep it to roughly 4 times a week.

  12. Thanks for visiting my blog this weekend. It really is a lot of work to keep up with all this stuff, a great way to waste time and stay in your PJ's :)I'm following now too!

  13. Back for a visit...happy hopping.
